Senior Product Manager Lallemand Baking Solutions

Main Functions

The Senior Product Manager (SPM) is responsible to realize the ambitious growth planned for the LBS product portfolio in the regions of EMEA and APAC. The SPM has the responsibility over the product range and is responsible to steer the regional LBS teams and the interfaces with the relevant sales teams to ensure proper focus and the implementation of the Annual Product Plan. The Product Plan must reflect the internal priorities as per the LBS strategic 5-Year Plan, the external customer requirements, and the key market opportunities, ensuring we have a focus on those areas that will bring the highest margin return on sales.

Position context

LBS is a global supplier of specialty bakery ingredients, essentially clean label concepts, based on ingredients that are derived from fermentation of bacteria and yeasts, including enzymes, specialty yeasts, starter cultures and aromatic yeasts. The LBS portfolio is essentially derived from Lallemand own technologies.

The business is driven by high margin innovative concepts targeting the large global bakery industry and operating on a lean cost-efficient organization. The LBS innovation model is based on a collaborative approach between the baking innovation centers, the Global LBS Marketing & Innovation Group and the regional sales teams. Our business in EMEA is largely driven by a customized approach with customers, but we also see the opportunity of a more portfolio driven commercial approach.

The Senior Product Manager is responsible for the portfolio in the EMEA/APAC regions, drawing directly support from the Innovation and Application Center at Wagenberg in Netherlands and interacting with the sales teams in these regions. The SPM is also a member of the Global Innovation and Global Marketing Platforms where the development of new ingredients is planned, and regional launches are decided. The SPM is the decision maker for product launches in his/her geographical area of responsibility.

 

Key Responsibilities and Activities

  • Develops and executes the Product Plan (meaning the specific plan for products and solutions provided by LBS) for his geographical area of responsibility. Decides on the marketing mix (4 P’s) required, taking in consideration the inputs of each relevant area.
  • Is responsible for keeping up to date Product Documentation files, and coordinates with QA, Application to ensure documents are accessible.
  • In this role, the SPM supports the Commercial Head of the region in achieving the sales and profit targets of the region in line with 5 Year Plan.
  • The SPM participates in Key Account Teams, Sales Meetings, and/or specific regional activities such as Exhibitions/Customer Events/Innovation Days etc.
  • Identifies the specific regional market trends that can ultimately lead to new product launches or used as input for the global innovation plan.
  • The SPM is part of the global Innovation, Marketing and Application Platforms and gives input and support to the global initiatives. The SPM can be the assigned Champion for innovation projects and/or executing agreed projects from the Innovation pipeline based on market needs assessment.
  • The SPM is the Launch Manager and prepares, executes, and oversees all relevant operational activities related to the launch of the LBS value propositions and their roll out (engaging and motivating sales in this process).
  • Together with the application teams and Innovation is responsible to develop M&S tool kits for specific applications segments (playbooks).
  • Provides external and internal product training when adequate
  • Monitors competition activities
  • IS responsible to define the LBS Communications Plan for his region and to coordinate that with the Marketing & Innovation Director.
  • Supports the LBS external partnerships, acquisition opportunities and the respective integration plans.

 

Key deliverables

  • Prepares, submits, and agrees the yearly LBS Product Plan for the defined areas in line with LBS strategy - including the actionable implementation plan with the specifics of the marketing mix (the base 4P’s) to execute it.
  • Ensures adequate all document management of his product range and regulates access to the application and commercial teams. This includes adapting and or preparing & coordinating all external documentation related to his portfolio involving QA where needed.
  • Manages the Product Portfolio in all its aspects.
  • Responsible for the Communications Plan in his area.

 

 

Technical skills

Required

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in an international business/ marketing environment in the baking industry with a sound understanding of bakery processes and the role of specialty ingredients.
  • Affinity with digital marketing tools.

An asset

  • A Master Baker, a Food Technologist, or similar education, preferably with business/marketing training, or at least with a strong commercial aptitude.
  • Knowledge of enzymes, sourdoughs and other functional ingredients in baking is a strong plus
