Research Associate- Synthetic Biology

Main Functions

The Research Associate will join a team developing and deploying synthetic biology systems for use in creating novel yeast and bacteria-derived products for use across Lallemand’s business units.  This position is based in Lebanon, NH and will report directly to the Project Manager. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining and improving our strain engineering platform.
  • Developing and validating new wet lab methods.
  • Genetic engineering of yeast and bacteria.
  • Documenting experimental procedures and results.

Technical skills

Required

  • Experience in various molecular biology and microbiology procedures.
  • Working knowledge of genetics and gene regulation.
  • Good troubleshooting skills to deal with technical problems.
  • B.A. / B.S. in biology, genetics, biochemistry, or related field.

An asset

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with a range of synthetic biology techniques (e.g. Golden Gate / MoClo, Gibson Assembly).
  • Familiarity with microbial physiology, biochemistry, protein engineering, and metabolic engineering.
  • Experience in coding (C++, R, Python, SQL) and API applications.
  • Hands-on experience in the area of genetic engineering of bacteria or yeast.
  • 2+ years of experience synthetic biology / genetic engineering.

Personal abilities

Required

  • Desire to work as part of a team in a fast-paced biotech industry setting.
  • Experience in providing high quality, timely data.

An asset

  • Lab experience outside of academic classes.

General criteria

  • Must be eligible to work in the US.
