Shift Supervisor

Main Functions


 Supervise the front-line production department employees in the yeast manufacturing environment during swing & graveyard shifts; plan and assign work, implement policies and procedures and recommend improvements in methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.

 Essential Functions:

  • Ensures effective employee relations.  Provides employee coaching and development.  Resolves employee issues and grievances through problem resolution.  Assists the production manager with employment-related decisions;
  • Facilitates ongoing, hands-on equipment training to maximize and balance product quality, productivity levels and safety.  Informs Production Manager of progress and/or deficiencies;
  • Manages departmental performance measures and provides regular production forecasts to plant leadership.  Ensures that the department is meeting budgeted yeast production and line speeds.  Analyzes and takes corrective action in a timely manner;
  • Provides technical expertise for the trouble-shooting of production equipment to maximize quality and minimize downtime.  Initiates maintenance activity through work orders, as needed;
  • Maintains proper inventory levels and initiates orders of raw materials.  Manage and control department inventory.  Investigates and resolves issues surrounding misplaced raw materials and/or product;
  • Oversee the general housekeeping, maintenance and organization of the processing and packaging departments during the swing and graveyard shifts.

 Other Functions:

  • Serve as back-up for Processing Supervisor and/or Packaging Department Supervisor;
  • Operate equipment to meet production requirements when inadequately staffed.

Technical skills


  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment, including telephone, calculator, computer, printer, typewriter, fax, and copier
  • Working knowledge of GMP, HACCP, Safety and ISO programs
  • Proficiency in MS365 applications
