Laboratory and Greenhouse Technician

Main Functions

Our Technical Marketing department is looking for a motivated and versatile individual to join our growing team as a Laboratory and Greenhouse Technician. The successful candidate will assist our team with executing, troubleshooting, and optimizing laboratory and greenhouse research trials using beneficial fungi, bacteria, yeast, and plant stimulating extracts in various model crop systems.

Tasks associated with this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Using aseptic laboratory techniques to culture, enumerate and apply fungi, yeast and/or bacteria;
  • Developing and modifying experimental protocols and SOPs as needed;
  • Communicating with required technical teams and business units to effectively coordinate and advance projects;
  • Maintaining plants in greenhouse studies to evaluate efficacy;
  • Maintaining accurate and professional records of laboratory activities;
  • Generating oral and written reports to summarize laboratory activities and projects;
  • Providing recommendations and observations to team members and management on results of projects.

Technical skills


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science with focus in Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Plant Biology, Biology and/or a related field;
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ relevant experience;
  • Demonstrated experience in growing plants in a laboratory, growth chamber or greenhouse environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to help in the design of experiments and do careful and meticulous experimentation;
  • Sound critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze data sets and evaluate scientific research results including experience in writing comprehensive reports;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneNote and Teams);

An asset

  • Proficiency in basic statistical data analyses;
  • Experience with molecular techniques such as qPCR.

General criteria


  • Have a valid driver’s license;
  • The position requires working in the Lallemand Plant Care laboratory located at the NRC in Saskatoon. Vaccination is mandatory as part of the health and safety measures in place in this government building;
