Analytical technician for chemistry (and microbilogy lab)

Main Functions

We are a French-speaking team looking for a dynamic and motivated person to join us to work in our analysis laboratories. This person will work in a flexible and friendly environment among 6 other colleagues and in collaboration with the different research laboratories located in Royalmount. He/she will mainly work in the CHEMISTRY laboratory, but could be called upon to help the microbiology department as needed (or according to interest). The chosen person must be comfortable speaking in French in order to be able to communicate with immediate colleagues and master a basic level of English for working with predominantly English-speaking external laboratories. The current offer lasts for one year but could be extended subsequently. The responsibilities of the technician will mainly be:

  • Analysis of the protein and phosphate content of yeasts by Kjeldahl method;
  • Preparation of extractions / digestions for various HPLC - GC - MS analyses;
  • Launch of HPLC and GC analyzes (trehalose, sugars, GSH, nucleotides, ethanol, phenols, etc.);
  • Preparation of solutions and standards necessary for analyses;
  • Equipment maintenance;
  • Assist in the development or improvement of procedures.

This person could also be called upon to help with:

  • Microbiological analyzes on agar medium of different yeast samples (contaminants, viability);
  • Analyzes of the fermentation activity of bakery yeasts (dough rising test, CO2 release, sugar consumption);
  • Preparation of culture media and sterilization of equipment necessary for analyses;
  • Training of new students;

Technical skills

Required

  • FRENCH
  • BAC in science (CHEMISTRY, microbiology, biochemistry, or other related studies)

An asset

  • DEC in laboratory technology or related field could be considered with experience
  • Experience in microbiology (agar enumeration)
  • Chemistry experience (Hplc / Kjeldahl analyzer / GC)
  • English
