Procurement Agent

Main Functions

Purpose: 

To provide operational support to enable the plant to fulfill sales orders, meet inventory requirements and ensure products are delivered in a timely fashion. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Manage the procurement and receipt of bulk raw materials and services to ensure quality, cost targets and compliance with regulations and requirements are met. 
  • In collaboration with the operation manager(s) always ensure proper inventory levels. 
  • Develop/maintain/monitor reception schedules as required (site specific) to identify on a timely basis any late deliveries that can impact production. 
  • Investigate and resolve any issues surrounding misplaced raw materials and/or raw material inventory issues. 
  • Monitor usages and inventory levels (i.e. # of weeks on hand) which impact working capital. Weekly usage/ Inventory on Hand (mostly applicable for dry goods) 
  • Obtain relevant documentation for ingredient costs and associated terms with each vendor and send to Director of Procurement or file in established Lallemand system. Email price agreements should be supported with duly executed contract documents. 
  • Develop/maintain a log of vendor non-compliances (i.e. product specifications, delivery issues, documentation issues, other etc.). Work with Director of Purchasing to address and correct non-compliance events from vendors.  
  • Participate in quality system programs, including HACCP, GMP & ISO particularly as they relate to purchasing and receipts of raw materials. Ensure supplier evaluations are conducted and maintained as required. 
  • Knowledge of specific requirements for tanker trailers when needed. 

Technical skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or Supply Chain

An asset

  • 3 year’s experience in similar role

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven negotiation skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Thorough understanding of purchasing procedures and policies.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
