Maintenance Technician
Main Functions
PURPOSE: The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Install, start up, maintain, and shut down production equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
- Carry out equipment set-ups to meet speed, production and quality targets.
- Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and perform scheduled maintenance repairs during machine service.
- Perform machinist duties and responsibilities.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and adjust equipment as necessary to ensure good working order.
- Complete and maintain company-required paperwork and maintenance records for identified equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance functions on machines, equipment and plant facilities, as directed.
- Take part in projects to improve production equipment, the efficiency of equipment and set-ups.
- Perform plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions.
- Complete required general sanitation and housekeeping duties in all assigned areas.
- Maintain tools in an orderly fashion and in a safe operating state.
- Participate and comply in the various Quality System programs (GMP/Sanitation, HACCP, FSSC, ISO, Safety and Environmental regulations).
- Ensure food safety and quality.
- Take an active part in the health and safety program and comply with the rules and policies in force.
- Submit ideas for changes to avoid accidents.
- Assist and/or provide back-up coverage for Maintenance Manager and/or Maintenance Supervisor.
- Assist and/or provide back-up coverage for Instrumentation Electrician and/or Pipefitter/Welder, where applicable.
- Modify PLC programs as required.
- Read electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Perform other work as assigned.
Technical skills
Required
- A minimum of two (2) years industrial maintenance experience, preferably within a fast-paced, production-driven food environment.
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot and/or repair pumps, valves, packaging machinery, clarifier/separators, agitators, and motors.
- Troubleshooting skills and mechanical aptitude. A thorough knowledge of the special instruments used for diagnostic purposes.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and computerized “Work Order” systems.
- Working knowledge of boilers, cooling towers, low and high air pressure blowers, and refrigeration compressors.
- Able to work and troubleshoot electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of programmable controllers and programming languages.
- Experience reading electrical and mechanical plans.
An asset
- Skills to calibrate instrumentation preferred.
- Certified in the operation of steam boilers preferred.

Required
- Ability to develop and maintain productive and positive relationships with contractors, vendors and other employees.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from internal/external customers.
- Must be able to interface and communicate with line operators in order to assist with repairs and troubleshooting.
- Accuracy and attention to detail; logical and methodical approach to problem solving.
- Ability to climb, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analyses and repair work.
