Operational Buyer
Main Functions
Lallemand is seeking a Buyer to join its team and support plant operations. On-site presence required.
This key, hands-on role plays an essential part in ensuring operational continuity through purchase order management, inventory tracking, and close coordination with suppliers.
The position reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for ensuring the continuous, cost‑effective, and quality‑compliant supply of raw materials and selected goods required to support plant operations.
The Buyer works in close collaboration with Corporate Procurement, Quality, and Production teams to ensure operational continuity, supplier performance, and adherence to budget and quality standards.
Key Responsabilities
- Ensure uninterrupted supply of raw materials to meet production requirements.
- Create and manage purchase orders, deliveries, and supply planning to support operational continuity.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate transfers between plants, internal warehouses, and external storage facilities.
- Manage raw material and logistics traceability (containers, shipments, and related flows).
Supplier & Contract Management
- Maintain effective business relationships with raw material and service suppliers.
- Ensure proper execution of raw material and service contracts negotiated by Corporate Procurement.
- Monitor market conditions and recommend purchasing and hedging strategies aligned with production needs and approved budgets.
- Manage the supply of railcars (molasses) and support the negotiation of demurrage fees when applicable.
Supplier Performance & Quality Compliance
- Participate in annual evaluations of active raw material suppliers in collaboration with Corporate Procurement.
- Maintain non‑conformance documentation and follow up with suppliers to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Contribute to the development and ongoing monitoring of supplier performance programs.
- Coordinate required information with Quality Control during the integration of new raw materials.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Control procedures for the qualification of new products and new suppliers.
- Support the ongoing maintenance of kosher certification requirements.
Systems & Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate supplier and pricing information in procurement systems.
- Purchase office supplies and selected plant‑related items as required.
- Perform other related duties in support of plant and procurement operations.
Technical skills
Required
- College Diploma (DEC) or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Supply planning and market analysis
- Bilingual proficiency in French and English, both spoken and written, is required for this position.
